Drama Editorial Review
Hold Back the Dawn is a lovely romance starring Olivia de Havilland and Charles Boyer. The film tells the story of a deceiving gigolo who wants to marry de Havilland in order to gain entrance to the U.S. as a citizen. Directed by Mitchell Leisen, the movie is a fine example of 1940s filmmaking. While the storyline may be predictable, the performances are great and de Havilland shines in one of her best roles. The immigration theme of the film is still relevant today.
