Katatonia Format: Audio CD Progressive Metal Editorial Review
Discouraged Ones is a remarkable album by Katatonia, marking a significant transition in their musical style. This seminal record showcases a departure from their early death metal roots into a more melodic and atmospheric sound. The album is recognized for its haunting and melancholic quality, particularly evident in tracks like "Saw You Drown" and the closing track "Scarlett Heavens." Even though it presents a somewhat rougher edge, it solidified the band's new direction with clean vocals and introspective lyrics. The special Digipak edition enhances the listening experience with personal insights from the band, making it a collector's item for fans of dark poetry and atmospheric music.
